Background and Practice 

 

Alex speaks French and Italian fluently. He specialises in Criminal Law and has acted on behalf of both prosecution and defence.  His Criminal practice encompasses all types of cases. Alex has acted in high profile and/or complex cases including serious fraud cases, murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, blackmail and organised crime.

 

Alex is also regularly instructed by both prosecution and defence in DWP, VOSA, Trading Standards and HM Customs' fraud cases.  Alex is also regularly instructed by insurance companies in all sorts of  Road Traffic Accidents/Driving Offences cases. Extradition - Instructed in several high profile extradition cases

Coroner’s investigations and inquests - regularly instructed to appear on behalf of families and insurers

 

Serious fraud - R v Brett & others - Conspiracy - £28 million VAT fraud

 

Murder   -  Organised crime - black on black killings in London. 

             -  Indian/Pakistani gang war murder

 

Rape      -  the Sidcup subway rapist

             -  the Sheffield gang rapists

 

Confiscation hearing -  R v Patel & Others - a £38 million confiscation hearing which resulted in one of the highest confiscation order made in the UK.

 Career History

 

Before joining the Bar, Alex spent over 18 years in senior management in the commercial sector. He was the Deputy Managing Director of a Group of French companies with branches across Europe which he helped to set up and develop. He was the Director of Sales and Marketing of all the company’s overseas operations and has travelled extensively. During his time in the tourism industry, Alex received various Official Awards and Medals in recognition for his contribution to the development of rural Tourism in France. He was frequently invited to speak in seminars organised by various European Tourist Boards (Norwegian, Welsh, English, Spanish etc) keen to mirror the French success in the field of rural tourism.

 

Alex was also the Marketing Executive for EW Fact Plc’s (now Nord Anglia Plc) School of Finance and Management Division. He was responsible for drawing up the company’s business plan and was responsible for the marketing and development of the company’s overseas operations in the Far East, Africa, Indian Ocean and Caribbean.
