Claire is a specialist criminal practitioner and has been instructed both alone and as junior Counsel in a wide range of criminal matters ranging from the simple to the more complex. 

Whilst instructed in all aspects of crime, Claire has specific expertise in the conduct of cases involving serious violence and sexual offences.

 

R v H and Others (2010) Child abduction and rape

R v C (2010) Historical rape. R v H (2010) Alleged rape of his daughters friend. Acquitted

R v M (2010) Alleged rape of his brother.  Both the defendant and the aggrieved were young and had learning difficulties.  Claire succesfully argued for an intermediary to assist the defendant. Acquitted

R v C (2009) Rape, sexual assault of young boys and meeting a child following sexual grooming. Sentence of life with 10 years imprisonment imposed which Claire successfully argued before the Court of Appeal and reduced to life with 6 years and 8 months. He was referred to by the press as “Oxford’s most notorious paedophile”

R v G (2009) Voyarism. It was alleged the defendant had climbed into the roof space of a petrol station to spy on women in the lavatories. The defendant was acquitted following a successful abuse of process argument

R v D (2009) Alleged rape at a party. Acquitted

R v M (2008) Alleged stranger rape. Acquitted

R v B (2008) Sexual activity with his step daughter, a child under 13 years. Acquitted  

R v E (2010) A 16 year old defendant accused of stabbing a rival gang member. Claire is led junior

R v C (2009) The defendant was a drug dealer accused of stabbing a rival drug dealer. Claire was led junior

R v Y (2009) The defendant was alleged to have cut his wife’s throat before cutting his own.  The defendant committed suicide in the course of the trial. Claire was led junior

R v K (2008) The defendant was a cleaner who was alleged to have killed her employer, tried to conceal the body in a suitcase before setting fire to it. Claire was led junior

R v K (2008) Conpiracy to murder and possession of firearms. Acquitted. Claire was led Junior

R v B (2010) S18 GBH  An unprovoked stabbing with homophobic references

R v B (2010) Violent disorder. 15 defendants involved in football related violence

R v S and S (2010) 17 year old defendants robbed a jewellers

R v M (2009) S18 and robbery. An unprovoked attack on a university student which left him paralysed and requiring 24 hour care. Acquitted of S18

R v H (2009) Violent Disorder. A pre arranged gang attack where serious injuries were sustained

R v W (2010) Conspiracy to defraud

R v H and Others (2010) Arson. 16 year old defendants with learning difficulties set fire to a house

R v M (2009) Acting as led junior in this three month trial, Claire represented a defendant charged with importation and conspiracy to supply class A drugs

R v C (2008) Arson. The defendant set fire to her house when her family who had learning difficulties were inside the property
